Vocal Workshop with Abi Gilchrist, Director of London Soul Choirs and International Vocalist and Performer.

This is a chance to work in depth on vocal production and technique and finding your own voice and vocal confidence.

Abi Gilchrist
Founder and Director of the London Soul Choirs, Abi trained as a classical soprano on a scholarship at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and ENO’s The Knack Programme for opera. She completed her BMus at Goldsmiths College writing her degree dissertation on Vocal Production Technique and Problems. She then went on to train in Musical Theatre and Acting at the London School of Musical Theatre.

Abi bases her singing technique coaching on the Estill Vocal method along with some of the pop vocal techniques from Roger Love. She believes that building a secure breathing technique along with one consistent voice between registers quickly improves and expands on everyone’s vocal ability.

Abi is a professional session singer and performs with many bands and acts, not to mention leading the very successful Miss Kiddy and the Cads show. She also sings on many TV and film soundtracks and can be currently heard every day singing the theme tune to ‘Do you know?’ on Cbeebies.

Abi believes almost ANYONE can sing….and certainly EVERYONE can improve (and in a very short time too!) and singing can enhance musical ability and provide confidence in every aspect of your life.

Workshop 1
extended work on breathing and support
understanding the main breathing and support sounds and techniques how to increase and decrease volume
techniques for moving between the 3 voices
understanding style in singing and how to change tone – Belting safely

Workshop 2
This will mainly consist of short “masterclasses”: one-to-one sessions in front of the rest of the class to work on specific issues, then trying these out with the group as a whole. We’re asking for volunteers to bring a short section of music with a specific issue which they have trouble with to work on in the session.
