Just another London Choir…?

No – definitely not. For a start, we are not audition-based. We welcome anyone who likes to sing. Whether you live or work in London, no matter what borough, if you enjoy singing then you are welcome to join us.

There are many choirs in the City of London, most of which are audition-based, and whose repertoire centres around classical choral repertoire. Here at LCV we are focusing on a different sort of music – our composers are, by and large, the songwriters of the last 60 years. You never know – we may throw in an odd “classical” number at some point, but for the most part our songs will be drawn from popular music genres. Richard Swan, our director, has a particular interest in choral arrangements and most of the songs that we will be singing will have been arranged by him. If there’s a particular song that you think would make a good choir piece, do let Richard know and if he agrees with you he might arrange it. Richard’s repertoire already includes “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” (Bobby McFerrin), “Make You Feel My Love” (Bob Dylan), “Stand By Me” (Ben E King), “Somebody To Love” (Queen) and “Forget You” (Ce Lo Green) – he’s currently working on some Christmas repertoire too.

And our director makes us different too. Richard is very experienced in working with community choirs and has approaches and methods that other choir directors don’t. He uses a blend of humour and 20 years of teaching experience to bring the music to life, and you will find that you learn quite a bit about music theory – but in a lively and engaging way. Come and join us for the taster session on 9 Nov and see what you think.
